What the work is like

The problems here are not solved. Terminal approach to a tumbling target, guidance that stays feasible when the propellant fill fraction is uncertain, a descent that has to be certified rather than tuned: these are open questions, and the answers end up flying.

We are small, so there is no layer between writing something and finding out whether it works. You will see your own guidance run on flight-representative hardware, and you will be the one to explain why it did what it did.

The tools are model predictive control, convex and mixed-integer optimisation, and reachability analysis. If you have not used all of them, that is expected. Wanting to is the requirement.

Three ways to join

Full-time

GNC engineers, optimisation engineers, and software engineers who want to work close to the flight problem.

You would own a capability area end to end: the formulation, the solver, the tests, and the argument for why it holds. Expect real-time constraints and real hardware, not only notebooks.

Background in spacecraft GNC, control theory, numerical optimisation or robotics. Strong C++ or Python. Comfortable with the fact that the specification will change once the hardware answers back.

Internships & part-time

For students and early-career engineers who want a real problem rather than a training exercise.

Internships are scoped so that you finish with something that works and is yours: a solver, a simulation environment, a validated model. Part-time arrangements suit people already in a research group who want a second problem with an engineering deadline attached.

Tell us how much time you have and when. We would rather shape the project around your availability than pretend a three-month problem fits into six weeks.

Thesis work

Final year projects and MSc theses, co-supervised, on problems we genuinely need answered.

We will define the problem with you and your supervisor so it satisfies your programme and produces something publishable. Our interest is in the answer, so we have no reason to sit on results.

Bring your institution, your timeline, and the area that interests you. If your department already has a collaboration agreement process, say so early, because that usually sets the schedule.

There is no form and no portal. Write to us and say which of the three tracks fits, what you have worked on, and what you would like to work on here. A link to a repository, a thesis or a paper is worth more than a polished CV.

We read everything ourselves and reply, including when the answer is no.
